What ıs PVC?

PVC is the abbreviation of the term polyvinyl chloride. It is a derivative of PVC plastic, which is a kind of petrochemical product. And it appears in many areas of our lives. As understood from terms such as window, pipe, coating, it is used in a wide range.

PVC Pressure Water Pipes produced in accordance with TS 274-2 En 1452-2 standards can be produced in various diameters and in appropriate wall thicknesses according to safety factors, in accordance with DIN 8061-8062 and ASTM 1477 standards.
The pipes are used in drinking water lines and are capable of resisting underground conditions. Pressure Water Pipes, which are highly resistant to sudden weather changes and heat, are long-lasting and do not leak water and air.
Pressure Water Pipes with high resistance to impact and pressure are resistant to organic and inorganic acids and alkalis. It also contains an important feature such as not being deformed up to 60 oC.

It is a standard practice for PVC pipes and fittings. This test is also mandatory. Leakage test is done by making a “U” shaped assembly from Pressure Water Pipes. In the apparatus, whose height is 5 meters, water tightness is measured freely. In the installed system, possible water leaks from leakage points are eliminated by means of sealing gaskets.

  • PVC raw material, which is a white colored raw material, has many positive properties. Which was started to be developed in 1875, started to be used in the production of industry in 1930.
PVC raw material is obtained as a result of the reaction of chlorine and 43% ethylene (obtained by a series of processes of crude oil) with each other. It has a great advantage over other Polyethylene and Polypropylene raw materials, due to the use of less petroleum products in the production of raw materials and the low production cost.
While the rate of using ethylene in Polyethylene and Polypropylene raw materials is 97%, it is 43% in PVC. To summarize briefly, PVC raw material uses less world oil reserves and is less dependent on oil in terms of price.

There are two reasons that cause deterioration of Pressure Water Pipes during their usage period. These; HEAT and LIGHT. Decomposition by heat occurs with the release of hydrogen chloride. Due to this released gas, yellowing occurs in the color of the pipe.
According to the degree of deterioration, first reddening, reddish, brown and black colors are seen in the pipe color, respectively. When PVC pipes do not contain UV additives, they deteriorate when exposed to UV rays or gamma rays.
PVC-U pipes are not fragile because they are in crystalline structure. However, in materials such as Polyethylene and Polypropylene, it has a crystal structure of 80-85%. The reason why the crystal is important here is; The more crystalline it has, the more brittle it becomes under sunlight.
If we explain the point that causes this, the molecules of Polyethylene and Polypropylene material are connected parallel to each other and is in a mixed way, so it is difficult to break the bonds of PVC.
